What is GTO poker?

GTO stands for Game Theory Optimal. It's a strategy that can't be beaten in the long run, no matter what your opponent does. Think of it as the poker equivalent of a chess engine's baseline — a solved answer for every spot, based on math instead of hunches.

Why it matters

Most players lose because they leak — over-bluffing rivers, folding too much to 3-bets, c-betting the wrong boards. GTO gives you a floor: a baseline that stops the bleeding. Once you can play unexploitably, you can start exploiting weaker opponents on purpose, from a position of strength.

A quick example

You're on the button with A♠ 5♠. Blinds fold to you. Big blind is a solid regular.

Feel
Suited ace with a wheel card — sure, open it. Maybe limp behind for cheap.
GTO
Raise 2.5×. Every time. A5s is a top-25% button open — folding or limping burns EV. Facing a 3-bet, call ~60% and 4-bet bluff ~10%.

That's one hand. Poker has thousands of spots like it. GT_O drills them 20 at a time until the right answer becomes instinct.
